Just to name a few..... 

In 1561 Charles IX of France began gifting bunches of

Lily of the valley on May the 1st to ladies of the court as a symbol of good luck. This charming custom is still observed in Paris to this day.

l'uccello Christamas Decorations Launch and Shopping Event

Join us this coming Wednesday the 12th of November for the launch of our Christmas decorations! During this special shopping event we will extend our opening hours to 7pm.

This year we have searched out some of our favourite designers and are thrilled to bring you a wonderful selection of Christmas decorations. We have traditional designs  from Bethany Low as well as nostalgic vintage inspired decorations from Wendy Addison's Theater of Dreams.

As expected  we have also sourced enchanting vintage decorations for you that will add a classic charm to your Christmas. And we also have divine contemporary decorations that will perfectly compliment different decors for an authentic Australian Christmas. These include opaque glass baubles, fun painted metal decorations and sparkly tinsels.

We have a limited number of these fabulous decorations so take the opportunity to be inspired and create your own magical Christmas with l'uccello

l'uccello new deliveries just in time for the Craft and Quilt Fair

It has been a busy time at l'uccello. 

We have been setting up for the Craft and Quilt Fair  and as you can see from the image of our stall EZ06 below it is crammed full of goodies so please come and visit!

We have also been unpacking a new batch of vintage sack cloths, if you have been waiting for these beauties don't delay as our stock is limited. They are available in store and at the Fair.

It has also been a labour of love packing our divine vintage sequins into sweet little bottles. These sequins and tiny beads come in so many lovely designs and colours and the vintage tags have  delighted us....

And just to add a little more charm to our days we have been unpacking the most beautiful flowers and vintage stamens as well as new fabrics by Liberty of London and Mas d' Ouvan.

Vintage French Toys

These sweet French wooden vintage toys have just arrived at l'uccello.

And while we can see them delighting and being played with by little ones these toys can be enjoyed by 'children' of all ages who remember the joy and excitement of their playful childhoods.

Vintage 'Pharmacie" Boxes

These delightful French vintage cardboard boxes are perfect for storing your little treasures in. They come in a few sizes and have wonderful original labels in lovely fonts.

The square vintage pharmacists boxes from Rouen a town north west of Paris where once used for cachets. The cachet was two rice paper cups joined together with powder inside and were developed in France by Limousin of Paris in the 1870's. The ingenious little cachets where designed to make the taking of bitter powders (medicine) more palatable.   

 These sweet round boxes are from a pharmacy in Lons Le Saunier south east of Paris between Dijon and Lyon vary in size from 12cm's to 5cm's in diameter.  

French Vintage Industrial Beauties

These lovely wooden vintage industrial shuttles and bobbins where used to weave fabric and ribbon silk jacquard and come from a ribbon factory in the Lyon region of France. Lyon was particularly associated with the manufacturing of silk ribbons as this was a traditional area of silk manufacture. This industry played an important role in the economy and by the 19th C Lyon had 310 silk factories not only exporting their goods to America and England but also India and even China. 

These industrial beauties with their aquiline and graceful profiles are made from a blond wood and many of them, over time have developed a wonderful patina through being handled and used.

Complementing the bobbins and shuttles are these original ribbon patterns. These works of art are hand painted in gouache and show just a small variety of the colours and patterns that would have been manufactured. They come from the mid to late 1800's with hand written notes on the back in French. The penmanship is exquisite with many of them including the designers signature and the date it was designed. These pieces are magnificent mementos of a bygone era.

 

I dream of Thee........

This charming post card from 1911 is just one of our selection of vintage cards, swap cards and paper ephemera that has been collected by Kim and is available in store at l'uccello.  It is so lovely to think of this little card being posted off as a reminder that you are in someones thoughts, the back has a short sweet message from brother to sister.

We just had to share our most recent haberdashery find. 

Beautiful vintage French ribbons in a variety of sorbet colours. The moire (watermarked) ribbons that are over 18cm's in width are exceptional.

One of the special neckpieces made by Vikki Kassioras,

this work has a beautiful yellow vintage splatter bead as its focal point, 20th C carved agate butterflies and victorian black  glass facetted beads. Truly unique.  

Chris Massey's neckpiece features a vintage button 

and charms all on handmade  twisted cord.

Another unique treasure.

Introducing l'uccello collect

Finally we can let you in on a little secret......l'uccello's Kim Hurley has been passionately collecting vintage trims, charms, beads and collectables for some time. 

Now, in collaboration with two contemporary jewellers 

Vikki Kassioras and Chris Massey this wonderful collection has been transformed into unique works of wearable art.

In the future we hope to add more pieces to the exclusive 

l'uccello collect label and collaborate with other artists whose work we love.
